Not the finest few days for coyotes in eastern North America, thanks to the pair responsible for the death of Canadian folk singer Taylor Mitchell. What happened is sad and tragic.
There's a lot of coverage to sort out---Jon Way has been seemingly all over the news. I'll do my best to pull together some of the more important, informative stories soon.
Until then, try to refrain from joining any hot-blooded coyotes search parties.

this coyote attack is especially strange to me since I've lived around coyotes my whole life without any issues (in AZ) - they seem to be afraid of people
I found coyote tracks in my yard today, live between the Forest Hills Cemetery and the Forest Hills T Stop. We know they are around, never seen one, but our dog has definitely smelled them before, refusing to leave the deck and go outside. I have several dog tracks in the yard from friends' pets, so I know this is completely different.
We saw a coyote on Jan 22 at approx. 10:30pm crossing the intersection of Elm/Roanoke/Revere streets. It was mostly a light brown color. It seemed pretty unconcerned that we & other people were walking so close to it - in fact we had to change direction, as we & it were headed towards the same street corner & about to run into each other.
